Britain has an amazing campaign that they do every second year, called "Red Nose Day" where they hold tons of ideas/events to raise money for different charities. For example, one cool idea is that all school students can pay a pound to wear their own clothes to school instead of their uniform. Or Jamie Oliver made a little not-profit cookbook (which I bought)...It almost seemed like it was a holiday! So many people were walking around with fake red ball noses (like a clown would have) and tonight on 'tele' apparently BBC does tons of comedy shows to raise money for charity.
Some of the people groups they are supporting through charities this year are:
For the UK:
Young People Mental Health
Refugees & Asylum Seekers
Disadvantaged Communities
For Africa:
People affected by Aids
Women & Girls
People affected by Conflict
People living in Urban Slums

On the website (which you should really check out) they have raised something like 13 million pounds...that's fantastic!!! Canada should have a national push to donate to charities like this.
Score one for the UK for sure.

We have Operation Red Nose. It's a campaign for having designated drivers for when you drink. Totally different, but still good!
I can only think of variety shows or telethons that Vancouver puts on, but they are generally for local fundraisers like hospitals or Canucks Place, etc.
